BSA703-Researching with Cat
Areas of interest in Blackboard
In organization, there is the SIT Library tab. There is plenty of useful information for us to use when doing our research and development during our project.
Mendeley and Zotero are another option for referencing. I personally like using Citefast.
Areas of interest on the Mysit page
Under the Library tab, it has a whole lot of database sites. It also has guides on researching and referencing.
The most used database is ProQuest Central.
Better than google because we can filter out anything we don't need.
Be specific. Use AND/OR/NOT to help with this. Can use a combination of keywords in brackets, asterixis or use quotation mark to perform other functions.
* Means word and all possibly word endings (EG real = really, realism, reality)
(xxxxxx) Searches for words in brackets first.
Remember to use search filters.
Use APA 7th. Endnote is an easy citation and referencing system.
Cite as you write.
Difference between magazines and journals are that magazines are not peer-reviewed but magazines do come out more frequently. They are useful for gaining insight on the global technology and industry as it is ever changing.
Support your research with academic material, do not rely on non-academic material (Eg magazines)
Use full text PDF for easier referencing.
This session pretty much went over everything we already know from the last two years of doing this session. I wouldn't say that I haven't learnt anything new (Except Endnote). It was just a refresher.
We will be doing an entire session on using Endnote, which may prove to be useful.
